Charter Fishing Milwaukee Salmon Lake Michigan

Wisconsin charter fishing is just simply outstanding in August as this couple found out. They were lucky to fish during a trip we were prefishing for a tournament. When this occurs we let our customers know when they call to book a trip so they are prepared. Really the only differances for them is that the charter starts at 5:30AM, we only fish 9 rods and you get to fish six straight hours and this does not include travel time. We also don't stop at your limit so we do release fish during the trip. This allows us to keep fishing but at the end we let you keep some of the firstmates. During this trip these two landed 16 fish including a 20 pound and 18 pound Chinook salmon. To continue to be a successful Milwaukee charter fishing captain's, fishing tournaments is a must to stay on top of your game.

When we are prefishing a tournament there is absolutely no pressure put on the customer. Silver King Chartes is interested in getting as many hook ups during tournament time as possible. We also want to see what is hot as close to a tournament as possible. The weather allowed us to fish every morning during this week except Monday and from Saturday through this trip on Friday we took 15 or more fish each trip. We had the pattern dialed in. Most big tournaments have a limit of 15 fish were you recieve 10 points for each fish and 1 point for each pound. Needless to say we felt real good going into this tournament.

Silver King Charters fishes several major tournaments each year and they help us to stay on top of what is hot and new technology that will help catch fish for our clients. Racine charter fishing is real good during the early part of the season and there are several tournaments held in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois during this time. We fish Cash-On-The-Line and the Bob Uecker Make-A-Wish Foundation tournaments while we are chartering out of Racine Wisconsin. The Make-A-Wish tournament is one of the most expensive and competitive tournaments on Lake Michigan. There is a $600 entry fee and the top prize is $15,000. Our best finish was 12th place but it is a two day tournament and we finish in first place for the second day in 2008. My brother and I fish this one together and feel confident in a top five finish during the next couple of years.

Most tournaments my brother and I compete against one another and over the years Willy has got me by a couple of tournaments. During the Milwaukee Great Lakes Sport Fishermen tournaments we have both finished in the top three for boats and my brother has now one it twice with a blow out perfomance in 2009. These tournaments are based on four tournaments held throughout the year. The accumulated points of four tournaments determines the year end winner. We offer charters during these tournaments and have won several trophies for our customers. See our rates page for details and dates.

The biggest salmon tournament in Milwaukee Wisconsin is held on the second Saturday of August and is called the Brew City Salmon Tournament. I co-chair this event as a board of director for the Great Lakes Sport Fishermen-Milwaukee Chapter. This association was created to continually improve the salmon fishery on Lake Michigan. There are many differnent groups around Lake Michigan that make up a seat on the Great Lakes Federation board, which directly affects the fishery by stocking quotes and federal policies. If you go fishing with a charter captain who is not a member of one of these associations you are on the wrong boat! About 50% of all Wiconsin charter fishing captain are not members and it only runs $15 to $35 depending on the port. These captains use lame excuses for why they don't want to help support what they do for a living.

The Brew City tournament is very competitve, with over 100 boats for the last 6 years. The 10th anniversary of the tournament happens in 2010 and there has never been a repeat winner. Charter fishing Milwaukee comes to a standstill during this one day event because any charter captain worth his salt enters the contest. Silver King Charters best finish was 3rd place, when Willy came close to winning it and he also landed the biggest salmon in 2006, which is a $1000 prize. This 29.96 pound Chinook salmon is still the largest fish ever caught during this tournament and there is a picture of it in the gallery. Between the two of us we have also finished 5th, 9th, 10th, 17th, 18th, 21st, 26th, and 28th. Neither one of us have finished lower than 32nd during this tournament in 14 attempts. This is outstanding but we still need to win the trophy.

Now back to prefishing for this tournament. I will just say that if you want to catch fish come out prefishing with Silver King Chartes because we never would have been out of the top ten and would have won it twice. After a week of dialing in on these salmon the weather turned bad and the contest was cancelled for Saturday and the tournament was moved to Sunday. The conditions on the lake totally changed and although we adapted quickly my crack crew managed to loose 8 fish, catching only 12, as we finished a disappointing 26th. The catch you see in this picture was an easy top five finish and these two lost only two fish on their first trip fishing Lake Michigan salmon. One of these fish would have taken second place for big salmon of the tournament.

Milwaukee charter fishing and Racine charter fishing gets us ready for the several major tournaments Silver King Charters fish each year and we take all of our trips very seriously. If we don't improve and learn on every trip we have no chance in tournaments. This is why Silver King Charters is popular for repeat clients and this is the ultimate tournament prize. People aboard our boats never see us satisfied with a catch and appreicate the top notch equipment and knowledge we pass along. Tournament fishing is the best way to make your charter experience outstanding. Hope to see everyone who took a trip with Silver King Charters back next season. I may be looking for a new tournament crew if mine keeps losing fish.
