Milwaukee Charter Fishing Spring Coho Salmon

We always tell our clients that the best Lake Michigan charter fishing for salmon is mid May through late June. The stocking on Lake Michigan for salmon has changed since 2007. The Chinook salmon, which was once king of Lake Michigan was reduced until by 2017 there were only 1.3 million stocked in the lake. This caused overall salmon catches to drop. The good news in in 2020 stocking numbers for Chinook doubled and the future looks good. But the reason salmon fishing is on average better in spring for numbers caught is the Coho salmon. This fish was nerver reduced in stocking numbers and the peak time to catch them falls in May and June. Last season we had a warmer spring and the action started up in early April. We moved the boat 40 minutes south of Milwaukee to take advantage of this bite and charter fished out of Racine, Wisconsin. We spent three weeks down there, with many limits of Coho salmon. This group braved an April snow storm to take a limit catch.
